NOW HIRING: DISHWASHERS
The Dishwasher at UQBAR Cafe is a crucial member of our team! They play an essential role in upholding our commitment to food safety and sanitation, enabling UQBAR to deliver fresh, high-quality food and excellent service. Their efforts directly contribute to UQBAR’s success and our ability to serve our West Berkeley community.
Compensation and Benefits: $19-21/hour base wage, plus $3-5/hour in tips for an estimated total of $22-26/hour. Health insurance for full-time staff. Paid sick and vacation days. Shift meal and employee discounts.
Schedule: UQBAR is opening in October 2025, and we are hiring for both full-time (5 shifts per week) and part-time positions. UQBAR will be open for daytime hours Tuesday through Saturday from 8am-2pm, and we plan to expand to all-day service, 8am-8pm. Friday and Saturday availability is a must!
Key Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain the dishwashing machine efficiently and safely to ensure sparkling results.
Hand wash oversized or specialty pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment as needed.
Ensure all dishes, glassware, and cutlery are thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, organized, and stored, treating each piece with care.
Set a positive example for the team by maintaining a clean and organized area, including sinks, counters, and floors.
Assist with basic cafe cleaning tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, and taking out trash and recycling.
Support the kitchen team by assisting with tasks like stocking, organizing, and maintaining clean workstations.
Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including food safety and proper handling of cleaning chemicals.
Proactively report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the Chef.
Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.
Qualifications:
A strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to cleanliness and organization
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic kitchen environment.
Reliable, punctual, and a dedicated team player eager to contribute to UQBAR’s success.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices (Food Handler's Certification required upon hire).
Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs.
Prior experience in a kitchen or dishwashing role is a plus, but not required. We value a positive attitude and a willingness to learn above all!
