NOW HIRING: BAKER

The Baker at UQBAR is an integral part of our team, responsible for crafting our house-made breads, pastries, and treats. This role is perfect for a passionate baker who is creative, motivated, and able to work efficiently alongside others. They will be instrumental in developing UQBAR’s unique bread and pastry program, contributing to our made-from-scratch menu.

Compensation and Benefits: $19-21/hour base wage, plus $3-5/hour in tips for an estimated total of $22-26/hour. Health insurance for full-time staff. Paid sick and vacation days. Shift meal and employee discounts.

Schedule: UQBAR is opening in October 2025, and this position is full-time (5 shifts per week). Anticipated hours are approximately 6am-2pm Tuesday through Saturday.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mix, shape, and bake a variety of items including buns and rolls, English muffins, flatbread, muffins, cookies, cakes, and assorted (non-laminated) treats.

  • Collaborate closely with the chef-owner to develop and refine UQBAR's bread and pastry program.

  • Ensure all baked goods are prepared and presented consistently and in a timely manner, maintaining high standards of quality.

  • Manage a small but efficient workspace, maintaining organization and communication with other staff.

  • Monitor inventory levels of baking ingredients and communicate needs to the chef.

  • Uphold the highest standards of food safety and hygiene.

  • Portion and store ingredients properly to minimize waste and ensure freshness, actively contributing to waste reduction and sustainability goals.

  • Participate in daily kitchen cleaning tasks.

  • Assist with receiving and storing deliveries as needed.

  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.

Qualifications:

  • A genuine passion for baking with high-quality ingredients and a commitment to culinary excellence.

  • Basic knife skills and understanding of kitchen equipment, food preparation and baking techniques.

  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices (Food Handler's Certification required upon hire).

  • Ability to follow recipes accurately and work efficiently and independently in a small space

  • A strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to cleanliness and organization

  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic kitchen environment.

  • Reliable, punctual, and a dedicated team player eager to contribute to UQBAR’s success

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs.

  • At least 1 year of experience in a professional baking setting is a plus, but not required. We value a positive attitude and a willingness to learn above all!
